Junkers Ju 87 Stuka
By Chris Banyai-Riepl
Authors: Robert Michulec & Matthew Willis
Publisher: MMP Books
ISBN: 978-83-65281-12-8
Binding: Hardcover
Pages: 128The primary dive bomber of the Luftwaffe during the Second World War, the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka was a common sight on all European fronts. The latest title in the Mushroom Yellow Series covers this famous aircraft, from its origins in the early 1930s through to its ultimate end in the waning days of the Second World War. The book breaks down the discussion of the Stuka into specific variants, starting with the prototypes and moving through the alphabet from the Ju 87A all the way through to the Ju 87H.
Each variant is covered in depth in the text, highlighting the specifics of the aircraft. This includes information on sub-variants for each main type, including the various Rüstsatz field modifications. Separate chapters are included to cover the tropical variants and the night variants. In addition to the text, there are detailed scale drawings showing the specific variants, as well as photos and color profile illustrations to highlight camouflage and marking schemes.
In addition to the overview information, the book provides a technical description section. In this section there are detail photos and drawings of all the sub-systems that make up the Ju 87, as well as a nice color rendering of the instrument panel. The detail photos include both period aircraft and museum examples, making for a very thorough walkaround of the Ju 87 Stuka.
This is a welcome title in the Mushroom Yellow Series, made timely by the release of the new Airfix Stuka kit. My thanks to Mushroom Model Publications for the review copy.
