Nils was born in Oslo, Norway, in 1960. His interest in aviation evolved from plane spotting at nearby Fornebu Airport in the early 1970s. He then joined the Norwegian Aviation Historical Society, the first of several aviation history organisation memberships.

Nils has had several articles published in Norwegian and British aviation and modelling periodicals. For eight years, he was a member of the editorial staff of the Norwegian historic aviation magazine Flyhistorie, published by the Norwegian National Aviation Museum in Bodø.

For three of those years, he was chief editor. Nils has also been a member of the Committee of the Norwegian Aviation Literature Seminar since its establishment in 2007.

Nils is an avid scale modeller and has served for several years on the Committee of the Norwegian branch of the International Plastic Modellers’ Society (IPMS). He creates illustrations for publications, including the MMP book “Swedish Fortresses”. He also produces decals for model aircraft, which are available from his website, www.vingtor.net.

When not researching aviation history or performing his day job as a senior systems engineer, Nils enjoys the great outdoors, including hill walking, skiing and kayaking. He is a qualified mountain guide and glacier climbing instructor.
